Getting Started
PDF Editor is a browser-based tool that allows you to perform common PDF operations directly in your web browser without installing any software or uploading files to a server. The application has two main features:
- Merging multiple PDF files into a single document
- Splitting a PDF by extracting specific pages or page ranges
To get started, simply choose the operation you want to perform by clicking on the corresponding tab at the top of the page.
Browser-based Processing
All PDF operations happen directly in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to any server, ensuring complete privacy and security.
Merging PDF Files
Merging PDFs allows you to combine multiple documents into a single file. This is useful for creating reports, compiling documentation, or organizing related materials.
How to Merge PDFs
- Go to the "Merge PDFs" tab on the home page
- Upload multiple PDF files by either:
- Clicking on the upload area and selecting files
- Dragging and dropping PDFs into the upload area
- Verify that all the files you want to merge appear in the list below the upload area
- If needed, remove any files you don't want to include by clicking the "Remove" button next to each file
- Click the "Merge PDFs" button to combine the files
- The merged PDF will be automatically downloaded to your device
Pro Tip
The order in which you upload files determines the order they'll appear in the final merged document.
To rearrange files, remove them and upload them again in your preferred order.
Note
The size of files you can process depends on your browser's capabilities and your device's memory.
Only PDF files (.pdf) are supported.
Splitting PDF Files
The split feature allows you to extract specific pages or ranges of pages from a PDF document. This is useful when you only need portions of a larger document.
How to Split a PDF
- Go to the "Split PDF" tab on the home page
- Upload a PDF file by either:
- Clicking on the upload area and selecting the file
- Dragging and dropping the PDF into the upload area
- After uploading, you'll see the total number of pages in the document
- Choose one of the extraction options:
- Custom Page Selection: Extract specific pages or page ranges
- Extract All Pages: Create individual PDF files for each page
- If you selected "Custom Page Selection", enter the pages you want to extract in the input field
- Click the "Split PDF" button to extract the pages
- The extracted PDF(s) will be automatically downloaded to your device
Extracting All Pages
When you extract all pages, the result will be downloaded as a ZIP file containing individual PDFs for each page.
Working with Page Ranges
When splitting a PDF, you can specify which pages to extract using various formats:
Page Range Examples
Here's what each format means:
- Individual Pages: Specify page numbers separated by commas (e.g., 1,3,5)
- Page Ranges: Specify a range of pages using a hyphen (e.g., 1-5 extracts pages 1,2,3,4,5)
- Combined Format: Use both individual pages and ranges together (e.g., 1,3,5-7,10-15)
Page Numbering
Page numbers start at 1 (not 0).
If you specify page numbers beyond the total pages in the document, those invalid pages will be ignored.
Browser Compatibility
PDF Editor works best with modern browsers that support the latest web standards. For the best experience, we recommend using:
- Google Chrome (latest version)
- Mozilla Firefox (latest version)
- Microsoft Edge (latest version)
- Safari (latest version)
Large Files
Browser-based processing has limitations when handling very large PDF files. If you're working with files larger than 100MB, you might experience performance issues or memory errors depending on your device.
